All our Councillors are committed to improving the environments of the three Wards and working in partnership with other groups and the local County Council to provide the best value service possible.

Penmaenmawr Town Council Vacancies

Vacancies have arisen on the Town Council which are to be filled by Co-option. The successful candidates will serve for the remaining term of office, until May 2027.

Capelulo Ward – 1 position
Pant-yr-Afon – 3 positions
Penmaenan ward – 2 positions

The Role
Town Councillors represent the people living in Penmaenmawr and Dwygyfylchi. When decisions are made Councillors are there to put the views of the local people and have a duty to represent all local people and their interests.

Being available to the public and making people aware that you are a Councillor plays an important part in gaining the understanding of local views. Council meetings are open to the public and can be accessed remotely by Zoom.

An effective councillor is not an easy role. It requires considerable skills and effort to achieve success. The reward is to see the benefit to the community through the policies and action of the council.

There are several reasons why people become councillors such as:

  1. Representing electors and constituents
  2. Using the position of councillor to push forward policies
  3. Improving or changing the things for the community
  4. Defending the area and the community against threat or changes

Christmas Lights in Penmaenmawr

The lighting up of the Christmas trees and the highway in Penmaenmawr this year will be a more low-key event than in previous years. This is partly due to a change in health and safety legislation and partly due to a change in staff for the Town Council.

The change in legislation has resulted in the local volunteers who formed the Light Up Pen group deciding that the new legislation was too much for them to deal with and they would not be able to achieve the National Highway Sector Scheme HERS accreditation that was now required.

The Town Council extends a huge thankyou to Light Up Pen. The Town Mayor Cllr Chris Williams said “The group did a fantastic job dedicating a lot of time to bring us enjoyment over Christmas. We hope to work closely with members of the group and indeed the wider community, to ensure we use their knowledge and enthusiasm to light up Pen to their high standard in the years ahead.”

The Town Council is currently working diligently in partnership with the County Council to meet the new requirements and to make sure that some festive decorations can be displayed. A thorough review is scheduled for January to ensure that all the necessary requirements to meet the new health and safety standards are in place for the future.

The change in circumstances has also impacted on the “Lighting Up Event” usually organised for the Remembrance Tree. In fact, a community lighting up event may not happen this year, but this should not stop those wanting to dedicate a light to someone special letting the Town Council know the name(s) of those special people and every effort will be made to arrange a banner displaying the names.

The Flood Store is located in the Old Weighbridge Clerks Office across the road to the station.

Economic Well Being – the council will support activity that helps the town’s economy sustain itself and hopefully grow stronger and become vibrant with a diverse range of shops and employment opportunities for our residents


Environmental Well Being – the council will continue to promote environmental improvements in the town through the employment of our Civic Pride Wardens, as well as funding environmental improvements


Social Well Being – the council will continue to work with local volunteer groups who provide important support to our vulnerable residents, as well as supporting those volunteer groups that promote healthy living and resilience to our residents
